About Lana Olson
Lana’s litigation experience is the result of Lightfoot’s guiding principle of “learning by doing.” From her earliest days as a lawyer through the course of her nearly 30-year career, she has developed a reputation for her ability to “think like a client” while managing her cases. Her unique ability to put herself in her client’s shoes comes, in large part from her experience as a client. That is because in addition to her normal litigation practice, Lana has served for many years as the Assistant General Counsel for a leading heavy truck component distributor. In that role, she managed all facets of the company’s legal and compliance matters, from day-to-day consultation to the most complex and significant pieces of litigation. She was responsible for hiring and managing a team of outside counsel and helped shape litigation strategy on behalf of the company, while reporting directly to the company President. Her experience in this respect had a tremendous impact on her view of how outside counsel can better serve to their clients – – a view that her clients have come to really value.Lana’s experience in the trenches has also shaped her into the lawyer she is today. She has served as lead counsel in a variety of roles, including first chair at trial and for complex arbitrations. She loves to oversee and manage messy, high stakes, multi-party and mass tort cases, where her skills developed over many years in leading teams and organizations lets her shine. A lifetime and self-proclaimed "leadership fanatic," Lana is a voracious reader, student, and teacher on all things involving leadership. She is constantly learning and implementing strategies to improve efficiencies, innovation, engagement, and impact. The techniques and strategies she utilizes have been learned both in real time and from her continued study of all things leadership related. One of the greatest honors and experiences of her professional life was serving as an officer for DRI (Association of Lawyers Defending Business) and eventually as President of the organization from 2022-2023. Since she first became a lawyer in 1999, Lana has been very involved in DRI and continues to serve in various capacities as a Past President.
