Karen Berhow

Karen joined the firm of King Simmons, PC, after practicing defense litigation for over 17 years, specializing in workers' compensation, personal injury, and insurance litigation. Karen decided to use her litigation expertise to pursue her passion for helping people injured on the job, or those who have suffered from injuries caused by the negligence of others.Previously, she represented both small and large corporations, as well as municipalities. She successfully secured favorable outcomes for clients at the trial court level, in both tort and workers' compensation cases. Ms. Berhow also obtained favorable opinions at the appellate level, from both the Alabama Court of Civil Appeals and the Alabama Supreme Court. Now she looks forward to using that extensive experience to get results for injured clients. She was recently named a 2020 Top Attorney by Birmingham Magazine in the Workers' Compensation category. Ms. Berhow is a frequent speaker on topics involving both workers' compensation and tort litigation. Ms. Berhow became licensed to practice law in the State of Alabama, as well as in the U.S. District Courts for the Northern and Middle Districts of Alabama, in 2003. She is a member in good standing of the American Bar Association, and the Alabama State Bar Association and Birmingham Bar Association, where she is a member of the Workers' Compensation Sections and Women's Sections. Ms. Berhow was recently elected as Treasurer of the Birmingham Bar Workers' Compensation Section for 2021.She received her B.A. from the University of Alabama in 2000, magna cum laude, with a double major in English and Political Science, and a minor in German. As an undergraduate, she was the Scholarship Chair for Zeta Tau Alpha, and a member of numerous honor societies, including the prestigious Phi Beta Kappa. She attended law school at the University of Alabama, receiving her J.D., cum laude, in 2003. While in law school, she was a senior editor for the Journal of the Legal Profession. In the community, Ms. Berhow serves on the UAB Neurosurgery Women's Leadership Council, where she was President for two years, and she volunteers as head of committees at her daughter's school. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling, and spending time with her husband, Jon, and young daughter, Kate.
