Michael Benz

Mike Benz is a retired partner of the Litigation, Bankruptcy, and Restructuring Group, practicing law since 1986. He has extensive experience representing secured and unsecured creditors and trustees in bankruptcy proceedings, workout matters and commercial litigation. Mike regularly represented creditor clients in securitization and structured finance matters as they overlap with bankruptcy law. In addition, he advised creditor clients on municipal bankruptcy issues under Chapter 9 of the Bankruptcy Code. He argued cases in Bankruptcy Courts, District Courts and Federal Appeals Courts across the country, as well as before the Illinois Supreme Court and the Illinois Appellate Court. He has also testified before the Rules Committee of the Illinois House of Representatives and the Judiciary Committee of the Illinois Senate in support of legislation relating to the rights of foster parents.
