John Milligan

My practice focuses primarily in the field of Labor and Employment Law. While earning my law degree I received a Concentration Certificate in Labor and Employment Law with an emphasis on private labor relations. Over the years, I have developed extensive experience as a civil litigator in a wide array of labor and employment matters, including: employment discrimination, harassment, hostile work environment, quid pro quo, and wrongful termination; employee wage and hour violations; ADA, FMLA, FLSA, and other federal and state law claims; severance and separation agreements; non-compete, non-disclosure and other restrictive covenants; employment agreement drafting and execution; and, employee handbook and policy drafting, review, and revision. I have led the L&E review and due diligence on large multi-million dollar mergers and acquisitions deals and advised clients on best practices. I am equally comfortable defending matters in Court as I am before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, Ohio Civil Rights Commission, or any other state or federal agency responsible for administering and enforcing labor and employment laws throughout the country. I have significant experience engaging in collective bargaining with public and private labor unions, managing grievances, defending clients through the arbitration process, and litigating matters before the National Labor Relations Board. My practice spans the nation. I have litigated cases and matters in California, Utah, Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Michigan, Kentucky, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Florida, South Carolina, North Carolina, Texas, New York, Massachusetts, Wisconsin,Missouri, and many others. In addition to my L&E practice, I developed significant maritime experience litigating Jones Act and other general maritime cases, including unseaworthiness, personal injury, and wrongful death matters. I have handled claims under the Longshore and Harbor Workers' Compensation Act, reviewed charter agreements, and successfully mediated many maritime claims.
