Bill Matsikoudis

Bill Matsikoudis is a founding partner of Matsikoudis & Fanciullo, a public interest law firm that uses litigation to improve communities and people's lives. MF Legal has successfully represented non-profits and a major city in forcing corporate polluters to remediate former industrial sites; whistleblowers and victims of sexual harassment in the workplace in employment litigation; and people who have suffered serious harm from corporate indifference in personal injury actions. MF also represents publicly-minded corporations, such as litigating on behalf of an energy consulting firm or representing an industrial developer that is remediating a Superfund site and creating hundreds of jobs. MF is currently generally counsel for the Hudson County Improvement Authority. Previously, Matsikoudis was Jersey City’s Corporation Counsel from 2004 to 2013, where he supervised outside counsel and 26 attorneys in the Law Department. He made headlines by suing Fortune 50 companies and compelling them to clean up contaminated sites that Jersey City later used for development and parks, while bringing millions of dollars to the City. He spearheaded initiatives to make Jersey City more sustainable and to create new parks, including transforming a Superfund Site into a waterfront park. In 2013, the International Municipal Lawyers Association awarded Matsikoudis with its Joseph Mulligan Distinguished Service Award. Matsikoudis served in the Administration of Governor James E. McGreevey, including as a Senior Deputy Attorney General and Assistant Counsel in the Governor’s Office. Matsikoudis was a litigator at the law firm of Wilentz, Goldman and Spitzer before entering into public service. He received his B.A. cum laude from Seton Hall University in 1993 and his J.D. cum laude from Seton Hall Law School in 1997. Matsikoudis was a senior advisor to the mayoral campaigns of Jersey City Mayor Jerramiah Healy, served as a Delegate for Barack Obama at the Democratic Convention in 2008, and ran for Jersey City Mayor in 2017.
