Walter Bowers

As Director of Governor Josh Stein's Charlotte office, I represent the Governor in one of the most vibrant, diverse, and dynamic regions in the state. In this role, I help build bridges—between government and communities, policy and people, opportunity and equity. I lead regional engagement efforts, coordinate with agencies and local officials, and ensure the Governor’s priorities are advancing real change in the lives of Charlotte residents. My journey to public leadership has been grounded in service across multiple spheres—as an attorney, law enforcement, the military, and the ministry. I am a former U.S. Army Captain who served in Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom, where I led troops in combat operations and was honored along with the rest of our unit, for our efforts. Following my military service, I returned home to serve as a police officer with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, working both patrol and legal divisions, and receiving recognition for undercover work and community safety initiatives. Later, as an attorney and founding partner of a law firm, I focused on civil litigation, employment law, and protecting the rights of underserved communities. I’ve also provided legal analysis for major news outlets including MSNBC, offering insights into high-profile legal cases and issues shaping our country. Beyond government and law, I serve as the Senior Pastor of a thriving, community-rooted ministry in Charlotte. Our church campus is home to a business incubator, learning academy, and a wide range of initiatives promoting spiritual growth, educational equity, economic empowerment, and social justice. I also serve on the Board of Directors for the Better Business Bureau (Charlotte), helping to promote trust, transparency, and ethical business practices throughout our region. In every role I take on I lead with purpose, integrity, and a deep commitment to building a more just and compassionate society.
