About Keith Brodie

I am a Capital Partner in Barnes & Thornburg's Grand Rapids, Michigan office, and the firm's Michigan Labor and Employment Department Administrator. As one of only six Michigan Labor and employment lawyers ranked in Band 1 of Chambers USA I have been recognized as "...a leading labor and employment lawyer, with strong expertise in collective bargaining and notable experience representing manufacturers and healthcare companies." I am a member of the College of Labor and Employment Lawyers and current Chairperson of the Michigan State Bar Labor & Employment Law Section (LELS) Council, having served on the Council for over five years. Although practicing in all areas of labor and employment law, a substantial portion of my practice is devoted to handling traditional labor law matters under the National Labor Relations Act (NLRA). My labor law experience includes: administering and negotiating collective bargaining agreements with all major labor unions; representing employers in labor arbitration and unfair labor practice proceedings; developing and training management on engagement and union-free strategies; assessing vulnerability and responding to union organizing; and developing labor law strategies for mergers, acquisitions, reorganizations, closings, and other desired operational changes. I also have deep experience regarding employment law matters including, but not limited to, under the FMLA, FLSA, employment discrimination laws, and regarding hiring, discipline, terminations, and reductions in force and WARN Act compliance. Barnes & Thornburg's Michigan labor and employment department is led by six partners (four of whom are ranked in Chambers) and overall ranks in Chambers Band 2. Our department has a deep bench with particular strength in traditional labor matters, employment counseling and litigation, and collective actions.
