Joseph Francoeur

I am a partner at national law firm Wilson Elser and an experienced trial lawyer and appellate advocate with high visibility in the areas of professional liability defense and federal statutory litigation. In addition, I have extensive alternative dispute resolution and trial experience at the state and federal levels. As the national co-chair of the firm’s Specialty Professional Risks practice, I defend lawyers, insurance agents and brokers, real estate professionals and miscellaneous professionals. I have successfully defended class action litigations and I am well-published on issues relating to discovery in state and federal cases. I also have handled appeals before state and federal appellate courts, including arguing before the Second Circuit Court of Appeals and briefing before the United States Supreme Court. I enjoy sharing my unique experience as a member of the firm's National Associate Training team, providing training and oversight to the firm's newer attorneys. Following five multi-month secondments with various Lloyd’s of London insurance syndicates, I have developed a unique understanding of the insurance market and an insider’s view of effective claims management, defense and reserving. I am a member of the firm’s Legal Malpractice team, e-Discovery Committee and Pro Bono Committee. In 2017, I was awarded the New York City Mayoral Service Recognition Award for my pro bono efforts.
