Matthew Kincaid

I am an attorney, entrepreneur, and educator. The majority of my professional time is spent in the private practice of law, working at my own firm, Kincaid Law KC (https://kincaidlawkc.com/). My primary practice areas are business, real estate, and trademark law. I may work within all three of these areas in connection with a single engagement or just one in isolation, depending on the needs of the particular client and situation. My clients range from small businesses and entrepreneurs to contractors, homes associations, individuals, families, and non-profits. Prior to opening Kincaid Law KC, I worked for four different law firms in the Kansas City metro area. My experience at these firms aided my transition into self-employment and allowed me to start from a place of expertise as opposed to unfamiliarity. Other relevant historical experience such as performing research for legal academics similarly built my knowledge base and shaped me into a more well-rounded legal professional. I would be remiss if I didn't mention that my work experience outside of the legal environment has had a direct impact on how I view and understand the world of business. In addition to the research positions mentioned, I served as a teaching assistant at the undergraduate and graduate levels and transitioned that experience into lecturing at the University of Kansas and the University of Missouri-Kansas City. I am one of the few (or perhaps the only) practicing attorneys in the KC metro area who has served as an adjunct professor or lecturer at two D-I universities prior to the age of 30. I have further appeared as a guest lecturer at UMKC's Bloch School and Johnson County Community College. At KU, I have instructed or co-instructed three unique courses, including one in Panama, the latter calling upon my bilingual skills (English and Spanish). My entrepreneurial ventures are now primarily focused on my law practice and investing for my family, but they have consisted of real estate investing, book authoring and publishing, leading a small team in licensed real estate purchases and sales, motorcycle restoration, as well as other endeavors. I am an independent person and find entrepreneurship to be consistent with my personality and life goals. It's also consistent with my upbringing, having a business owner for a father and a small proprietor (and educator) for a mother. Outside of the above, I do my best to stay civically involved, whether serving on non-profit boards, participating in city-based leadership programs, or mentoring students or young lawyers.
