My practice has two main focuses. 1. I have unique and broad experience assisting clients involved in the collegiate sports industry with their legal needs. Over the past 15 years, I've represented collegiate sports clients such as the NCAA, the Big 12, Conference USA, and Division I universities in a wide-variety of matters, including high-profile litigation matters such as the O’Bannon and Alston cases, conference realignment matters, concussion matters, and the review and negotiation of broadcast agreements. In addition to this broad collegiate athletics experience, I'm also acknowledged as an expert on the new issue of college athlete name, image and likeness (NIL) compensation and college athlete compensation in general. I have represented numerous businesses and athletes in NIL matters and have assisted universities in considering a number of NIL and compensation related issues. As a result of my experience, I am often sought out by the media as an expert on NIL laws and issues, as well as other college sports law issues. In combination with my experience as a former NCAA Division I scholarship basketball player at the College of William & Mary, I am well-suited to represent businesses, universities, coaches, and college athletes that are seeking counsel who can provide well-reasoned and real-world guidance on athletics-related legal and compliance issues. I was recently recognized by On3 Sports as one of the Top 25 most influential people in NIL and was recognized this year by Best Lawyers and Super Lawyers for my work in Sports Law. 2. I partner with businesses large and small to help them navigate complex challenges, including representing them in general commercial and business litigation, class action litigation, intellectual property litigation, and a broad array of business transactions and negotiations. In doing this work, I have represented a wide variety of small and large businesses, including Intel, the NFL, Stanford University, and a number of small businesses in Kansas City and throughout the US. In 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018, I was identified by Missouri & Kansas Super Lawyers as a Rising Star in Business Litigation, and in 2021 and 2022 I was identified as a Missouri & Kansas Super Lawyer.
