Rachel Fingles

Support, Not Court. That philosophy guides everything I do. I help families navigate conflict and move forward with clarity through education, thoughtful guidance, and a team-based approach that honors both the legal and human dimensions of family transitions. My focus is on informed decision-making and bringing the right professionals to the table so families can resolve matters with steadiness rather than escalation. I began my career at a not-for-profit serving children and families in Kane County, then earned my J.D. as a Dean's Scholar from Northern Illinois University College of Law. As a former Assistant State's Attorney, I handled cases involving child abuse, neglect, delinquency, and domestic violence, an experience that continues to shape how I approach family law today. With advanced training in interdisciplinary collaborative dispute resolution, including the Harvard Program on Negotiation, I guide families through complex parenting and family dynamics with clarity and care. I am frequently appointed by the court as a Guardian ad Litem and Parenting Coordinator, always keeping the child's best interests at the center. Beyond my practice, I am an active author, presenter, and trainer for organizations including the Kane County Bar Association, the Illinois State Bar Association, the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals, and Collaborative Divorce Illinois. I coach for Northwestern University's School of Professional Studies Divorce Mediation Certificate Program and stay involved with the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts and bar associations across Northern Illinois. I currently serve as Co-Chair of the Kane County Family Law Committee, Chair of the Illinois State Bar Association Solo and Small Firm Committee, and President of the NIU Alumni Council, reflecting my ongoing commitment to advancing thoughtful, process-driven approaches to family law.
