Jim Zouras

I am a founder and principal of Stephan Zouras, LLC, a Chicago-based law firm concentrating in representing people throughout the United States in class and collective wage and hour litigation, biometric privacy, data privacy, cybersecurity rights, consumer fraud, catastrophic personal injury and other complex litigation. Over my 30 years of practice, courts have appointed me as lead counsel in more than 100 complex class actions which have collectively resulted in a recovery of more than $500 million for hundreds of thousands of ordinary people nationwide. My published cases exceed 250 decisions from jurisdictions in at least 16 states. I have tried over a dozen major jury trials for plaintiffs and argued at least 20 appeals in federal and state courts, including four before the Illinois Supreme Court, two of which established groundbreaking precedent for data privacy rights. In addition to my admission to numerous trial and appellate courts, I am a member of the bar of the Supreme Court of the United States. I am frequently invited as a speaker at national class action litigation and trial seminars, have testified before legislative bodies, and helped draft legislation designed to protect worker rights. I have been selected as an Illinois "Super Lawyer" in every consecutive year since 2009, a distinction given to no more than 5% of the lawyers in the state. Since 2023, I have served as co-chair of the Consumer Privacy Committee of the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association (ITLA). In 2023, the Illinois Bar Foundation honored me and my firm with its Champion Award, which is given each year to an attorney “whose professional and public careers set an example to which others aspire.” I am a member of the University of Illinois at Chicago LAS Board of Visitors and regularly mentor younger and aspiring law students.
