About Robert Hochman
ROBERT N. HOCHMAN is the Vice-President and General Counsel of the University of Chicago. In that position, he is responsible for overseeing the legal team at the University’s Office of Legal Counsel and for providing strategic guidance to the President of UChicago and other members of its leadership team. Previously, Rob co-led the Supreme Court and Appellate practice at Sidley Austin, one of the nation’s leading law firms. He represented a diverse range of industries including computer hardware and software, medical devices, life sciences, banking, insurance and financial services, air and rail transportation, research universities, and others. He has won appeals before the U.S. Supreme Court, state Supreme Courts and federal and state appellate courts covering a broad range of issues, including patent, class actions, antitrust, federal preemption, pleading standards, state tax and regulatory standards, contract disputes, and others. In addition, Rob co-led the Associate and Compensation Committee for the Chicago office of Sidley, which oversaw the career development of hundreds of lawyers. And Rob has also taught law school courses on judicial opinion writing with leading federal judges.
