About John Nixon
John practices in the area of employee benefits and executive compensation, counseling executives, plan sponsors, fund trustees and ERISA providers in the design and operation of executive compensation, pension and retirement programs. He represents C-suite executives in the negotiation of employment, transition and severance agreements. He also represents corporate and governmental clients on a range of issues including tax and fiduciary issues applicable to pension, defined contribution, 401(k) and 457(b) plans; tax qualification requirements for such plans under the Internal Revenue Code ("IRC"); deferred compensation plans under IRC Section 409A and 457(f), equity and nonequity forms of executive compensation; and employer health, welfare and flexible benefits plans. John is a nationally recognized lecturer, commentator and author on executive compensation and employee benefits issues. He is listed in Chambers USA: America's Leading Business Lawyers as one of the nation’s top attorneys (Employee Benefits & Compensation); Savoy Magazine Most Influential Lawyers in Corporate America and U.S. News - Best Lawyers in America. John is a member of the Executive Leadership Council ("ELC"), the National Association of Corporate Directors ("NACD") and the National Association of Public Pension Attorneys (“NAPPA”) where he serves as its President (2022–2023). He also serves as an Executive in Residence at the Columbia University School of Professional Studies. Outside of his legal practice, John serves on the Boards of MMBB Financial Services and the Mann Center for the Performing Arts.
