About Michael Bersani
I graduated in the top 5% of my class at Syracuse University College of law, then went on to clerk for two years at the Appellate Division, Fourth Department before joining the personal injury law team of Michaels & Smolak, P.C., now known as Michaels Bersani Kalabanka, P.C., based in Auburn New York in 1995. I have been named “Lawyer of the Year” 3 times in the last 5 years by the "Best Lawyers in America" publication for my litigation successes in my personal injury and professional malpractice in the Syracuse metropolitan area. That was because other lawyers and judges gave me higher grades than any other personal injury and professional malpractice lawyers in the Syracuse Metropolitan area. Every year I travel all across New York State to lecture to my fellow lawyers with my annual “Update on Municipal Liability Law” under the auspices of the New York State Academy of Trial Lawyers. I have published numerous articles in the New York State Bar Association Journal, the New York State Trial Lawyers “Bill of Particulars”, and the Syracuse Law Review, to name a few. One of my articles on the governmental immunity defense has been cited as authority by the Appellate Division Third Department. I am the Author of the chapter on Municipal Liability in the New York Bar Association Personal Injury Treatise ("The Plaintiffs Personal Injury Action in New York State"). I am also a community activist. I have served on the board of directors of Farm Workers' Legal Services of New York (providing free legal service to under-served agricultural workers) since 1998, as the chair of the Geneva Human Rights Commission, chair of the board of directors of the Auburn YMCA, and chair of the board of directors of the Boys & Girls Club of Geneva, New York. Because of my commitment to helping farm worker immigrants and children at the Boys & Girls Club, I was named 2009 Citizen of Year by Geneva, New York Chamber of Commerce. I live with my wife, Alejandra Molina. I have five grown children. I enjoy bicycling, running, competing in triathlons, reading and traveling.
