About Leon Dejulius
I am a former law clerk to Chief Justice William Rehnquist, focusing on trial and appellate matters. I have tried cases to juries, judges, and arbitration panels. I have appeared in dozens of appellate matters, arguing appeals in several different federal and state appellate courts and twice serving as counsel of record before the U.S. Supreme Court. Most recently, I served as lead trial counsel for UPMC in its various commercial and antitrust disputes with Highmark, including lead counsel in a commercial arbitration that resulted in UPMC recovering more than $200 million. I am Partner-in-Charge of the New York Office. Some of my additional successful representations include defending an oil and gas E&P company in a $1.6 billion commercial dispute before the High Court of Justice in London, England involving ownership of major oil concessions in Kurdistan, Iraq; prevailing on behalf of an E&P company in a multimillion dollar dispute regarding ownership of Marcellus Shale leases; and securing summary judgment on constitutional claims in a multibillion public nuisance lawsuit. I also successfully represented the University of Notre Dame regarding alleged Establishment Clause violations in replicating its ACE program and advised the university in its investigation following a fatal videography lift collapse during football practice. I previously served as an adjunct professor at the University of Pittsburgh School of Law, teaching a class on the First Amendment. I currently serve on the board of directors of, among other organizations, Extra Mile Education Foundation, United Way of Southwestern Pennsylvania, and Pennsylvania Chamber of Business and Industry.
