About Mohan Ananda

Born and raised in rural Kerala, India, I spent my childhood in a village, surrounded by coconut groves, paddy fields, and hills—with no electricity. That upbringing instilled in me values of resourcefulness. After high school locally, I earned a BE in Mechanical Engineering from Coimbatore Institute of Technology in 1967. I then moved to the U.S. to earn an MS in Aeronautics from Caltech, followed by a PhD in Astrodynamics and Control from UCLA in 1973. I have published extensively and served as invited faculty at universities in the U.S. and abroad, including UCLA. I also earned a JD and passed the California Bar, where I have served for over 38 years. At NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, I contributed to the Viking, Pioneer, Voyager, and Mariner missions by developing navigation algorithms for interplanetary travel to Venus, Mars, and Jupiter. I led enhancements to the Deep Space Network (DSN), enabling vital data transmission across missions, and spoke globally at professional conferences. Later, at the Aerospace Corporation, for DOD, I helped design and implement the Global Positioning System (GPS). I received awards for exceptional contributions. I founded and served as CEO of Stamps.com (NASDAQ: STMP), leading development of patented online postage technology approved by USPS. I helped raise over $450 million in capital, culminating in a $6.6 billion acquisition by Thoma Bravo. As co‑founder and director of Envestnet (NYSE: ENV), I helped establish its India operations in Trivandrum, with over 2,000 staff. Envestnet was acquired by Bain Capital for $4.5 billion. I also co‑founded JAB Holdings Limited, a venture capital firm listed on London’s AIM, investing in early-stage technology companies such as RM Auctions (now RM Sotheby’s). I led Innovative International Acquisition Corp. (IIAC), a Cayman‑registered SPAC (NASDAQ: IOAC) that raised $230 million. Today, I serve as Executive Chairman of DRAI Health (formerly SecondOpinionExpert Inc.), Innovation Endeavours Pvt. Ltd., and IGDS Technologies Pvt. Ltd. I advise startups, investment banks, and VCs, acting as angel investor and board member. I lead charitable initiatives through the Ananda Foundation and the Achuthan Nair & Easwari Amma Charitable Trust, and serve as President of the Paanini Foundation. I am also a consultant for Stanford Seed Transformation Program. I have authored four books—Autobiography of an Immigrant, Start Small Dream Big, Looking Back, and Life with AI, exploring themes from immigration and entrepreneurship to global insights and AI’s future.
