About S Holzschuh

For over three decades, Scott has focused his practice on representing a broad spectrum of businesses, including financial institutions, national banks, automobile finance companies, solar companies, and loan servicers. Scott has counseled and defended clients on privacy and cybersecurity, employment matters, licensing and regulatory matters, and individual and class actions filed under state and federal Truth-in-Lending laws, UDAP laws, the Telephone Consumer Protection Act, the Fair Credit Reporting Act, and the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. Scott is a Fellow of the American College of Consumer Financial Services Lawyers. Scott previously served two consecutive two-year term appointments on the California Department of Financial Protection and Innovation’s Debt Collection Advisory Committee. Scott proudly serves in leadership positions with industry trade groups, including as Vice-President of the Conference on Consumer Finance Law and counsel to the Litigation Subcommittee of the American Financial Services Association. Scott has represented industry as amicus curiae counsel before the United States Supreme Court, before the California Supreme Court and Courts of Appeal, before the New York Court of Appeals, and before the 5th and 9th Circuit Courts of Appeal.Scott is co-author of the Consumer Finance + Privacy Counsel blog, covering topics related to the fast-evolving landscape of cybersecurity, privacy, and consumer financial services law. He has published dozens of articles in The Conference on Consumer Finance Law Quarterly Report and other scholarly periodicals on legal issues of interest to the financial services industry. Scott is also the author of two practice guides for the California Continuing Education of the Bar: Department of Financial Protection and Innovation Enforcement and the Fair Debt Collection Practices Acts, both of which are found in Debt Collection Practice in California (CEB). Scott's cybersecurity and privacy practice finds its DNA in decades of representing financial institutions and as the DPO of his former law firm. Scott holds CIPP/US, CIPP/E, CIPT, and CIPM certifications from the International Association of Privacy Professionals, has completed the Harvard VPAL’s Cybersecurity: Managing Risk in the Information Age program, and was appointed to the Advisory Board for the Certificate Program in Big Data at the College of Extended Learning at California State University, East Bay.
