About Gordon Smearer

Striving for success and being part of an effective team has always been important to me. It may have been because I grew up poor and lived on dirt roads in my youth, or perhaps it was because my mother worked so hard to get us off those dirt roads – I don't know.What I do know is that I have been extremely fortunate to surround myself with outstanding, hard-working teammates my entire life and have forged a focused and successful career, lending my hand to the plethora of opportunities that have come my way. From graduating as valedictorian of my law school class to inspiring and developing the talents of others through training and leadership, I believe the secret to my success is an outstanding work ethic and the ability to collaborate with others in unique and dynamic ways.I became a member of the California State Bar in 2015, passing the test on my first try and being sworn in not long after. As an attorney, I have volunteered for the Domestic Violence Project at the Mosk Courthouse, became TAP certified via LACBA, and volunteered as Deputy LA City Attorney. I am an Assistant Law professor in criminal law for Irvine University of Law.Having worked as in law enforcement since 1994, I have experienced a lot. If you would say, "there's no way that happened", I was probably there. This real-world knowhow is precisely what I have brought to every training opportunity, having worked with both civilians and law enforcement to enhance their knowledge of the law; and, combined with the passion for teaching developed by the hard work and example of my parents, is what inspires me towards leadership roles in law and the administration of justice.I am retiring in June 2022, but I am already running vacation time until then. I will be moving to the great state of Texas. I am currently available for new position consideration.
